There are many other ways to help supplement your income while providing a needed service. It is all about finding a niche where you can carve out a living for yourself and your family. Cecil Reed is not your stereotypical farm wife. She has been working hard on her family farm, plus running two other businesses on the side. For one she is a Pioneer Seed sales rep. On top of all that she also opened The Snazzy Sheep Boutique. She has a brick-and-mortar attached to her seed shop, but she also has a travel trailer that she brings to many events around the state. Reed gives us a little background on her endeavors.
The business caters to mainly the women in rural Iowa. It gives them a chance to access quality clothing products outside of the larger cities. She also has a selection of clothes for kids.
Reed was born and raised on the family farm and the agriculture business has always been a part of her life. She learned to make lemonade out of the lemons that she got during some dry years in the late half of the last decade. She really has gotten the support of the farm families around her.
What really gave her a surprise was how much she was able to grow her business during the onset of this pandemic. It has allowed her to tap into a market that was hard to reach when many businesses were having difficulties reaching their customers.
Reed adds that she has seen quite a bit of business from the local farmers and her seed customers as well. Many of them know that they put in long hours during the planting and harvest season, and they come in to get certificates or merchandise for their wives. She says that can be a morale booster during those busy farming seasons.
