With rain delays, farmers considering delayed planting and replanting

With few workable planting days due to the rain, farmers are considering what they might have to do to make sure the crop gets planted and still performs well. This could include strategies like delayed planting or even replanting. Nate Meyer, southwest Iowa field agronomist with Beck’s, said their studies show that it’s not quite time to worry about significant yield losses yet.

However, if it does end up that delayed planting is necessary, Meyer said that Beck’s has plenty of hybrids to choose from.

Replanting is also a consideration, but there are a lot of factors to take into account before settling on that. Fortunately, Meyer said Beck’s will provide seed at no cost to producers in the event of replanting.

Meyer added that he’s seen a huge variety in planting progress across his area of southwest Iowa.
