For the second consecutive year, scouts on the Pro Farmer Crop Tour have found a record corn yield. The final report, released Friday on profarmer.com, projects a national average corn yield of 182.7 bushels per acre, which is about a 0.5% increase over last year’s record projection. Lane Aakre, leader of the eastern leg of the tour, said the final state- Minnesota- was the star.
Aakre noted that these impressions from the Pro Farmer Crop Tour are just a snapshot in time, so things can still change before harvest.
While projections are optimistic, Aakre did add that there is an “unprecedented” amount of Southern Rust in the corn fields he visited.
As for the soybean side of the tour, the national soybean yield projection is 53 bushels per acre- down 1.99 bushels per acre (3.5%) from 2024. Pro Farmer’s total production estimate is at 16 billion bushels for corn and 4.26 billion bushels of soybeans. Mike Zuzolo of Global Commodity Analytics discussed how this will impact market prices.
Zuzolo said the markets will likely shift their focus back to the weather as disease continues to take its toll and decrease yields.
Again, the full detailed report can be found at profarmer.com.
