The fight over President Trump’s reciprocal tariffs is heating up again on Capitol Hill, while the Supreme Court has not ruled on their legality as of Thursday. President Trump turned to tariffs again this week, threatening 25 percent duties against countries like China, India, and the EU. Each of these are doing business with Iran, which is crushing a nationwide uprising with deadly force. Senate Majority Leader John Thune commented on whether the U.S. is on the cusp of new trade wars with China and others.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said the Senate Democrats will not support an “endless trade war.”

House Ag Democrats, in the meantime, unveiled their Farm and Family Relief Act to rein in Trump’s tariffs and slow SNAP cost-shifting to the states. Top Ag Democrat Angie Craig said this legislation seeks to provide some relief from Trump’s tariffs.

As the White House argues that tariffs have won numerous trade deals that benefit ag exports, farm groups claim billions in losses in the meantime, despite pending bridge payments.
