Senator Grassley discusses negotiations with Canada and USMCA review

United States Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) says that tough negotiating with Canada seems to be making progress with longstanding issues over dairy trade. Grassley says that some of the biggest hurdles in the way of renewing the USMCA have centered around dairy.

Grassley says that the President’s now-delayed 50 percent tariff may have helped to make progress towards USMCA renewal.

President Trump declared a last-minute tariff deal just hours before his 50 percent tariff deadline, allowing three days to finalize the deal. Grassley suggests that the deadline brought Canada to the table for more serious negotiations.

Grassley is hopeful that this week’s negotiations could push efforts towards USMCA renewal.

Senator Grassley made his comments on Wednesday during his weekly ag conference call with farm broadcasters and reporters.
