Now that the state legislature has wrapped up their session, it’s time to look back at a few things that were of concern to agriculture. Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig had a few policies he was most concerned about, and those were foreign land ownership and Meat processing regulations centered around poultry.

As we sat down with Secretary Naig earlier this week, he commented on how pleased he was to get many of the agriculture concerns addressed without much problem. He praised the state legislature for making necessary changes made and updating old policies for the times.

In light of the recent concerns over HPAI affecting dairy cattle, Secretary Naig says that it was a no-brainer to step up funding for foreign animal disease preparedness.

And finally, Naig says that some of the legislative initiatives will go a long way to helping promote our Iowa products both here and abroad. He also thanked the legislature for strengthening the toughest rules on the books for foreign land ownership.

We still have more to come from our talk with Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig.
