The latest tool to help growers battle SCN

If you are a soybean grower in the Midwest you are well aware of the threat of soybean cyst nematode or SCN. The yield robbing pest is responsible for $1.5 billion dollars in loss annually.

To give growers another tool to help fight SCN, BASF has developed a new website at SCNfields.com to give farmers more data to build a management strategy for their operation.

Troy Bauer is a senior technical field representative with BASF and says that the new website can assist Iowa’s growers with a visual data tool that displays SCN pressure in their area.

If a grower finds SCN pressure locally, the next step should be soil sampling says Bauer.

After considering the level of pressure in the immediate area a grower can then build a management strategy that best fits their operation.

Although crop rotation is one key component to help suppress SCN, it does not completely eradicate the destructive pest.
