October is pork month in Iowa and across the United States, and there’s no better time for us to be talking about the policies that affect pork producers across the country than when the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) recently hosted their legislative action conference in Washington, D.C. It was a chance for producers from across the country to meet with lawmakers and discuss issues critical to the pork industry.

NPPC president Terry Wolters talks about the intensive two-day event on capitol hill where producers from all over the United States talked with lawmakers.

There’s been a whole host of issues that have concerned pork producers throughout the last year or so. Wolters talks about the issues they covered with the lawmakers.

When you’re dealing with as many issues as we’re seeing in the livestock industry, and the pork industry in particular; It’s important to get these issues prioritized when you discuss the topics with elected officials.

just like with any other area of agriculture, this event held by the NNPC is a great example of why farmers need to get involved and talk with lawmakers in large groups. Bringing the power of numbers together helps drive home the issues that are being faced by producers in all areas of agriculture across the country.
