Planting season has gotten most of us around the state to a rough start. But things are finally starting to look up for farmers in some parts of Iowa as the growing season is really starting to kick off.

While some of the state is struggling with warm dry weather, Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist from Region 7 Meaghan Anderson talks about how that warm dry weather is benefiting the growth of the crops in some of Central Iowa. She mentions how the weather is differing between her Region as some are flooding in their fields, while others are quite the opposite.

Once again, the Iowa weather is causing havoc across the state, especially in Central Iowa. Anderson notes the wetter climate to start off the season, and in her words the ?excessive? amount of rainfall has only affected parts of Central Iowa. She mentions the split Region from wet to dry climates showing different amounts of progress compared to one another.

Anderson talks about some insects that have been affecting the fields in Central Iowa so far and as the reproductive stages are starting to come up, the chance for more pests is prevalent. She mentions that her main pest concern is the weed pressure due to a few climate related reasons.

As a farmer, there are many things that you need to keep an eye on and constantly doing to keep your crop in the best shape possible. Anderson talks about a few things that you should be doing, like scouting and looking for newer diseases/insects to not only help your fields, but to help your local agronomists as well.
