Today, Fareway Stores and the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) teamed up with Central Iowa Shelter & Services (CISS) for the ninth annual Giving Tuesday breakfast. Hundreds of warm meals were prepared and served to individuals experiencing homelessness across three Iowa communities. Chris Bellcock, IPPA regional director, said the donation aligns closely with the We Care principles.

IPPA also gave out hundreds of backpacks filled with stocking caps, socks, and pork sticks. With the cold weather that is currently hitting the state, there are many individuals who are in need of warm clothes on top of a hot, nutritious meal.

Fareway contributed a full breakfast spread, including 1,200 slices of bacon, 50 pounds of sausage patties, 132 pounds of eggs, 1,050 pancakes, fresh fruit, milk, juice, coffee, and more. Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer said Giving Tuesday highlights the need for charitable donations, but that attitude of giving back needs to persist year-round.

Fareway has been a consistent presence when it comes to giving back to Iowans recently. Cramer said those donations were also boosted by generous donations from consumers.

Today’s early-morning event brought volunteers to CISS in Des Moines, while additional meals were distributed at The Bridge Home in Ames and the Empowerment Command Center in Grinnell.
