Every day is a good day to celebrate agriculture, but you can never have too many official days for it. Today was one of those days, as the Iowa Farm Bureau (IFB) celebrated Farm Bureau Day at the Iowa State Fair. IFB Personal Relations Manager Andrew Wheeler talked about some of the ways they?re celebrating today on the fairgrounds.
The big draw of Farm Bureau Day is the annual Cookout Contest. Wheeler talked about the contest and how the various contestants qualified to compete at the state fair.
Many of the contestants bring more traditional grilling dishes, but some of them get real creative- this year, one contestant is making ?chicken breast footballs.? Wheeler said it?s always fun to see the variety of dishes.
The Cookout Contest and IFB?s presence at the fair in general do a great deal to educate people, especially as families become even further removed from the farm. Wheeler said it?s all a great opportunity to remind people of where their food comes from.
Wheeler added that they have plenty to offer for members and non-members alike.
The IFB folks will be at the fair all week, so Wheeler encouraged everyone to swing by and check everything out.
