The initial process is underway for the next farm bill as officials begin work on the next edition. The picture is currently unclear about what to expect with the next farm bill.
Former Minnesota Congressman Collin Peterson, longtime chair of the House Ag Committee, spoke at the Ag Outlook Forum in Kansas City recently regarding the farm bill and he was not very optimistic in his predictions.
Peterson has a lot of experience in this world of drafting legislation of this type and says people need to temper expectations because no one ever gets everything they want in a new farm bill.
He says he is worried because farm policy is drifting away from the traditional ag committees.
Peterson says there could be the danger of an attempt to split farm policy away from food policy.
That?s Collin Peterson from the Ag Outlook forum in Kansas City.
