The Farmers for Free Trade motorcade made its way across the country, carrying the voices of producers worried about how ongoing trade tensions are squeezing their operations.
Earlier this year, agricultural leaders cautioned the Trump administration that while they understood a second round of tariffs might be unavoidable and were prepared to shoulder their share, the farm economy couldn’t withstand the pressure indefinitely.
Farmers from across the nation took their concerns all the way to Washington, D.C., wrapping up a cross-country effort to spotlight the rising costs of production and the drag of tariffs on rural livelihoods. Brian Kuehl, executive director of Farmers for Free Trade, says their coast-to-coast motorcade stretched more than eight thousand miles and brought together voices from every corner of American agriculture.
Kuehl says they’ve carried those farmer stories straight to Capitol Hill, hoping lawmakers will turn what they heard into meaningful action.
Kuehl says their work is far from finished.
Kuehl says the work continues, and so does the conversation. Farmers have made their voices heard, but now it’s up to Washington to listen.
