As planting season continues and the 2025 crop season gets fully underway, it’s important for farmers to be aware of the diseases that can impact their crops and limit yields. Last year, the top yield-limiting foliar disease for soybeans was Cercospora leaf blight (CLB), according to the Crop Protection Network. Albre Brown, BASF technical marketing manager, wrote a white paper about CLB and how to manage it. Brown said CLB is dangerous because it can complete its full life cycle within a soybean plant, but it doesn’t show symptoms until late in the season.
Brown said a proactive approach to fungicide application can prevent the pathogen from spreading.
It’s important to properly identify what disease is limiting your soybean yields in order to make sure that you are taking the correct measures in response. However, Brown said CLB can be challenging to identify, especially since its symptoms appear similar to another disease: frogeye leaf spot.
Fortunately, both diseases are of the Cercospora species, which means that BASF’s Revylok fungicide is highly effective at managing both of them, even if you’re struggling to identify which disease you are dealing with.
