The markets are already volatile at this time of year, but when you add a few global news headlines on top of that, you get what we are currently seeing in the ag marketplace: chaos, chaos, and more chaos. Michael Weidner, director of grain origination and producer strategy with Landus Cooperative, said everything is combining to create a perfect storm of market volatility.
Weidner said the recent reports from the USDA have created a very interesting situation for the grain markets.
Weidner said the weather also raises some concerns over whether or not the corn and soybean crops will reach their estimated yield levels.
With both the Russia-Ukraine war and the U.S.-Iran conflict going on at the same time, two major shipping ports are closed right now, which is adding immense pressure to the grain markets. However, Weidner said this can open up some profit opportunities for U.S. farmers.
