The 2023 Farm Bill is a massively important piece of legislation for the agriculture industry, so groups like the National Cattlemen?s Beef Association are listening to producers for what they want to see in the bill. Todd Wilkinson, NCBA president-elect, said there?s been one common response: ?do no harm.?
Recently, we?ve policies like Prop 12 in California that seek to exert control over livestock producers. Wilkinson said that?s why it?s important to protect cattle producers from arbitrary policies and let the ranchers ranch.
As people become more and more removed from the farm, Wilkinson said it becomes increasingly important to advocate for farmers and producers and protect their way of life.
Wilkinson said another area they?re focused on is trade and market access issues.
Over the next couple of years, Wilkinson said the cattle industry, and especially cow-calf producers, could see a lot of market success.
