Farm Bill on hold until elections are decided

Midterm elections are taking place today, which means that the political scene for the near future is going to see some changes. That?s why getting out and voting is so incredibly important. The U.S. government has been working on the 2023 Farm Bill for a while now, but progress has been paused until the election results are in. Iowa 4th District Congressman Randy Feenstra said they?ve been waiting since they don?t know who?s going to be writing it yet.

Voting allows farmers and producers to have a say in what issues get addressed in the next Farm Bill, and one big issue has been on the minds of most Iowa farmers recently- drought. Feenstra said they?ve seen the worst of the Iowa drought in his district, and the government needs to make sure things don?t get worse.

Another bill Feenstra has been working on is the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act. At this point, they are looking for a piece of legislation to attach it to.

Feenstra added that they?re hoping to get it passed yet this year in order to level out the playing field for cattle producers as soon as possible.
