Albaugh LLC, a global leader in the production and sale of post-patent crop protection products which is based in Ankeny, recently provided a donation of $2 million to support the Food Bank of Iowa?s new building addition, which will double the size of its distribution center in Des Moines. Chairman Dennis Albaugh said the mission of the Food Bank of Iowa aligns closely with the mission at Albaugh LLC.

The Food Bank of Iowa has been located in Des Moines since 1999, but it has not expanded since then. Since demand for food assistance is the highest the food bank has seen in its 40-year history, Food Bank of Iowa CEO Michelle Book said it?s about time they expand their ability to serve those in need.

The expansion project involves adding another 30,000 sq. ft. space, which will allow the food bank to accept larger donations, purchase food more cost-effectively, and improve safety and overall efficiency. The entire area will include more than 12,500 sq. ft. of freezer space, 16,000 sq. feet of dry storage space, additional dock doors, a small office, and paving replacement. Book said this will allow them to store and distribute even more fresh, nutritious produce.

While this donation will go a long way towards the Food Bank of Iowa?s mission, Book said they?re always looking for more support because they?re only as strong as their partnerships are.

Book added that, if families are interested in volunteering, donating, or receiving food themselves, they should check out the Food Bank of Iowa website.
