Carbon credits are still relatively new in the ag industry, so there?s a lot that most producers probably don?t know about them still. The Farm Progress Show was a great place to find more of that information, especially if you visited Indigo Ag. They even had a big inflatable globe that represented the actual volume of a single carbon credit. Indigo Ag’s Heather Gieseke said the ?big blue sphere? showed how much impact just one carbon credit can have.
As an ag tech startup, Indigo Ag looks to make things easier for American farmers. Gieseke said their carbon credit program allows farmers to make a little extra money off of their conservation practices.
Gieseke also talked about what makes their carbon credit program different from others.
Of course, Indigo Ag isn?t looking to tell farmers what they should and shouldn?t do on their own farms. Instead, Gieseke said they try to look at what preexisting practices can be used to qualify for their carbon credit program.
Gieseke added that it?s important for farmers to ask questions in order to find a carbon credit program that best aligns with their operation.
