Since January, the National Biodiesel Board has been operating under a new name and brand. The organization is now known as Clean Fuels Alliance America, and its CEO Donnell Rehagen is proud of their position as a proven part of the country?s clean energy mix.
Rehagen sat down with the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network at Commodity Classic in New Orleans to discuss how Clean Fuels will continue to represent biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuels. Rehagen believes these fuels are receiving more and more support from the federal level.
?I think they recognize there is an economic impact that fuels like ours have on the rural economies. Energy security is enhanced by that as well. And then also the environment. So, we are seeing a great deal of increased support from the federal and state level.?
When it comes to biodiesel and renewable diesel, Rehagen says those markets continue to grow.
?We?re about a 3-billion-gallon industry now here in the United States. We expect those two fuels to grow over the coming years. Our vision is to be 6 billion gallons in the domestic marketplace by 2030.?
Rehagen says corporate policy is also helping drive the use of these fuel blends.
?Corporations like Amazon and Walmart are wanting to drive down their corporate footprint, so they are looking at their transportation supply chain ? rail, marine ? how goods move to them and looking for cleaner fuels to be used in those sectors.?
Rehagen also talks about some of the visions for Clean Fuels in 2022.
?We?ve got market demand is going to exceed our ability to produce all of those fuels. That?s sort of a good problem to have. The space to watch is what?s going to happen with sustainable aviation fuel. A fuel that can be made out of soybean oil just like biodiesel and renewable diesel. It?s all about carbon reductions and where those markets are going to grow the most.?
