At the 2022 Commodity Classic in New Orleans, Corteva Agriscience announced its next generation of corn rootworm trait technology.
Corteva officials say Vorceed Enlist corn will help enable growers to manage corn rootworm acres with more options than any other seed corn product. Judd O?Connor, President of U.S. Commercial Business for Corteva Agriscience, tells the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network that Vorceed Enlist technology is expected to be available in products across all Corteva seed brands.
?It starts off with yield,? said O?Connor. ?Vorceed is going to allow us to maximize that yield because we can leverage our entire germplasm pool in a much better way than we were able to do with some prior generation corn rootworm traits.?
O?Connor says Vorceed allows farmers to gain flexibility in managing corn rootworm pressure with three modes of action for above-ground insect protection, three modes of action for below-ground insect protection, and tolerance to four herbicide modes of action to help better manage resistant weeds.
?We?re going to have some great additional herbicide options for late-season weed control,? said O?Connor. ?With Enlist, we?ve still got glyphosate and glufosinate as options. Vorceed Enlist is also going to bring FOPs resistance. We?re excited about the additional functionality and can?t wait to get it ramped up.?
O?Connor says Vorceed Enlist corn trait will not be offered for sale or distribution until completion of field testing and applicable regulatory reviews.
?The year 2023, which is just around the corner, growers are going to start having access,? said O?Connor. ?And then in 2024 and 2025 ? by mid-decade ? we will be ramping up significantly until Vorceed becomes our lead corn rootworm product in the lineup.?
Corteva is finalizing its commercial plans for Vorceed Enlist products for the U.S. and Canada.
