After a record-breaking year for U.S. pork in 2020, the National Pork Board will continue to seek opportunities to diversify pork exports in 2021.
In a webinar last week, National Pork Board director of international marketing Dr. Clay Eastwood shared an update on the Pork Checkoff’s international marketing strategy. U.S. pork exports reached nearly 3 million metric tons in 2020, topping the 2019 record by 11 percent. Exports set new annual records in China/Hong Kong, Central America, Vietnam and Chile, and achieved strong fourth quarter growth in Japan and Mexico.
Eastwood says NPB will continue to work closely with the U.S. Meat Export Federation on its international marketing strategies.
A 2020 NPB study showed U.S. pork can position itself for long-term success in the Vietnamese and Philippine markets ? two Asian markets with increased demand for pork consumption anticipated in the next decade.
