The U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry today held a hearing to consider the nomination of Alexis Taylor, of Iowa, to become Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Senator Chuck Grassley is confident Taylor is well suited for the job.
Senator Joni Ernst is also in favor of Alexis Taylor being confirmed for the position.
Alexis Taylor is the current director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Previously she oversaw the U.S. Department of Agriculture?s (USDA) Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services (FFAS). She worked to open new markets and improve the competitive position of U.S. agricultural products in the marketplace worldwide.
The U.S. Senate Committee also considered the nominations of Dr. Jose Emilio Esteban, of California, to be Under Secretary for Food Safety at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Mr. Vincent Garfield Logan, of New York, to be a Member of the Farm Credit Administration at today?s hearing.
Senator Chuck Grassley says that he ?urges a quick confirmation? for Alexis Taylor to become Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at the USDA and hopes for that confirmation to take place next week.
