Some parts of Iowa could see rain early next week. State Climatologist at the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship Harry Hillaker says it’s possible but not certain on exact amounts yet.
?At the moment, it is looking like Monday or Tuesday. Do not know if it?s going to be a substantial amount of rain but pretty good chances at this point in time?, Hillaker
Hillaker says we?ve had unseasonable warm weather for this time of year but could expect frost in some areas this weekend.
?This Friday night Saturday morning looks like it will be the coldest shot of weather yet this fall. Northeast Iowa seems to have best chances to have a real killing freeze across a wide-spread area Saturday morning and more marginal conditions as far as nip the tender vegetation here in central and southwest Iowa,? Hillaker said.
Hillaker adds the frost may actually help with Soybean harvest.
?It may actually help with Soybeans somewhat by helping break down the plant a little better. There might be a few cases in far southwest Iowa that could still use some more time for beans to mature where things were planted later. Elsewhere in the state, it will probably more beneficial than negative to get a hard freeze,? Hillaker said.
He says we are behind typical frost dates. Typical freeze dates for far northwest Iowa are in late September and for central Iowa and south around October 7th and 8th.
