Cattle producers will soon have a new tool to combat pesky weeds in pasture land.

Corteva Agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, unveiled a new broadleaf weed control product at the 2019 National Cattlemen?s Beef Association Trade Show. Scott Flynn, North America zonal biology leader for Corteva Agriscience Range & Pasture, says the new product offers vast weed control.
?It?s a season-long residual control for many problematic (plant) species. It?s different from our previous product, GrazonNext, in that it has a broader spectrum of control,? Flynn said.
DuraCor? offers control of the carrot family, such as wild carrot and parsnip. These plants have created challenges for United States cattle producers, particularly those located in the Midwest region. DuraCor? provides prolonged control, in addition to broad spectrum weed control.
?There?s a lot of cheap products you can spray. They look good for about a month, but two to three months out, weed control drops off. You go into the next year and it looks like you never made that application,? Flynn said. ?With DuraCor, we are do an excellent job of killing those plants and holding that space through residual control until our grasses and desirable species can respond.?
Flynn suggests producers who properly maintain pasture ground will see economic benefits.
?For every pound of weed we have in the pasture, we are giving up one-and-a-half to two pounds of grass production,? Flynn said. ?That adds up over time, and we end up with a shorter grazing season because we?ve put so much pressure on the non-weedy parts of the pasture, utilize our forage throughout the summer and are left feeding hay much earlier.?
