After several months of work and negotiation, the House of Representatives passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, also known as the farm bill, with a bipartisan vote. Brian Glenn, director of government affairs for the American Farm Bureau Federation, said it’s been a long time coming.

Almost 400 amendments were filed for the House bill, with approximately 50 considered on the floor, and many were passed on a bipartisan basis.

Glenn said all eyes are now on the Senate as the farm bill moves there for approval.

Iowa Farm Bureau President Brent Johnson also commented on the passage of the farm bill: “Iowa Farm Bureau members welcome the bipartisan passage of a five-year farm bill in the U.S. House and are thankful for the work of the Iowa congressional delegation to ensure a vote. The Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2026 is important legislation that protects interstate commerce, such as addressing Prop 12, and is welcome news for farmers currently facing a patchwork of state laws to navigate and consumers who have felt increased food costs. This legislation lends much needed support to farmers during challenging economic times and demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting America’s farmers and rural communities. We are thankful for the U.S. House passing this important bill.”
