Trade is top of mind in the agriculture industry. Growing and maintaining our list of trading partners is essential, especially given the circumstances of the trade glut we have experienced in the past year or so. It is especially important to make regular trade trips to our partner countries and keep those relationships vital.

USDA Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, and Iowa native, Alexis Taylor recently returned from a trade trip to New Delhi, India. It was the first trade trip conducted to India in seven years and Taylor was pleased with how it went.

India is the second most populous country in the world and is rapidly closing the gap with China. With a lot of mouths to feed, having a stronger relationship with them is essential. Taylor explains why it was time to go back to India.

When it comes to ag exports, India imports a wide variety of products from the United States. To that end, a lot of meetings were being conducted by the businesses that accompanied Undersecretary Taylor to India.

Four more trade trips are going to be conducted this year. This comes at a time when ag groups and producers are concerned with the Biden Administration’s trade goals.
