Many farmers primarily use propane in grain drying equipment, but with the ever-rising prices of fuel and energy, propane can offer a more affordable power option. Michael Newland, director of agriculture business development at the Propane Education and Research Council, said the media tent at the Farm Progress Show had air conditioning powered by propane, which was a great showcase.
Newland said the U.S. has a large supply of propane that is produced here in the country, which helps keep prices more stable than other options.
Newland said the price stability also means that farmers don’t have to wait for power to be cheap before they run things like their irrigation systems.
Of course, that doesn’t mean farmers shouldn’t keep using propane for grain drying. Newland said it is still a top option for those systems.
