Potential ag impacts from significant winter system

A winter storm is set to move across the country this week and could have adverse effects for agriculture. The storm is unique in that it is tracking farther south than would be expected at this time of the year says USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey.

Southern states are expected to receive most of the moisture from this system in the form of rain and snow, says Rippey.

For northern states the snowfall should be less impactful but extreme cold is expected to bring concerns for winter wheat growers.

While livestock in the northern portions of the country are more acclimated to extreme cold, the bigger concerns are for livestock in the southern plains and south that aren’t used to severe cold.

That was USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey.
