The National Pork Producers Council has brought nearly 100 pig farmers from about 20 states to Capitol Hill for the Legislative Action Conference this week. NPPC Vice President Todd Marotz said they are meeting face-to-face with lawmakers and sharing the story of an industry represented by more than 60,000 producers nationwide.
Marotz said California’s Proposition 12 and a patchwork of state regulations continue to be a major concern for producers.
Producers are also advocating for federal investments or actions to protect the domestic herd.
Marotz said producers who are unable to participate in the Legislative Action Conference can help get the farm bill and other policy issues across the finish line with a simple phone call.
