Nutrien?s ESN allows for a responsible release of nitrogen

While we haven?t had the chance to get the 2022 crop out of the fields, we are seeing plans being made get the 2023 crop underway. With the price and availability of inputs, this year is as hectic as any other to get this done. Also, fertilizer is a big question mark. This is especially true of anhydrous ammonia. The ability to make the best use of this resource is going to be key for the upcoming season.

Stephen Johnson is Senior Marketing Manager for Specialty Products at Nutrien. He talks about their Environmentally Smart Nitrogen (ESN) product. It helps with a slow release of nitrogen at the right times.

When we talk about nitrogen, we obviously talk about environmental concerns when it comes to leeching of the fertilizer into the groundwater. Johnson says that ESN is safe for the environment and is designed to retain nitrogen and release it when needed, not just push it all through the soil.

Not only are farmers not wanting to lose nitrogen because of concerns for the environment, but it is also because fertilizers are an expensive commodity that we cannot afford to waste.

To help promote the product, Nutrien has made a piece of field art that can be seen from the air and helps promote the need for climate-smart ag products like ESN.
