The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association held a press conference on Thursday at the Pastour Family Farm near Mitchellville to announce its Building Iowa’s Cattle Future policy package. The press conference featured ICA’s plans for strengthening Iowa’s cattle industry, creating opportunities for the next generation of producers, and maximizing Iowa’s ability to contribute to rebuilding the nation’s cattle herd.
ICA Board of Directors President, Craig Moss, was asked at the press conference what incentives producers must have to retain heifers and begin the herd rebuilding process.
Bryan Whaley is the CEO of the ICA and he also proposed some ideas for helping to create opportunities for young and beginning farmers.
Moss says that Iowa is well positioned to be a leader in the efforts to rebuild the nation’s cattle herd.
The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association’s 2027 State Policy Priorities are creating opportunities for beginning farmers, expanding Iowa’s regional meat processing capacity and strengthening competition, maximizing the Working Lands Program, protecting Iowa’s agricultural land, and integrating cattle into land management to improve water quality.
