A disaster plan for your livestock operation is vital

Unfortunately for farmers and livestock producers, disaster can strike a farming operation at any time. A fire, flood, or tornado for example does not allow for much time to react. Dr. Mark van der List, a professional services veterinarian with Boehringer-Ingelheim, says a disaster plan is a must for any operation.

Dr. van der List says the first step of any disaster plan is to write down what needs to happen in case of an emergency.

He stresses the need for producers to keep a close eye on weather forecasts for potential risks. When action needs to be taken, a good plan will have everyone on the operation working in tandem to make sure that livestock are accounted for and safe.

A disaster kit is also another important tool that should be utilized as part of a disaster plan.

That’s Dr. Mark van der List of Boehringer-Ingelheim.
