A Linn County farmer was recently recognized for their contribution to promoting sustainable agriculture in Iowa. Laura Krause, owner of Abbe Hills Farm in Mount Vernon, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Sustainable Agriculture Achievement Award from Practical Farmers of Iowa. Krause said she has been committed to using sustainable agriculture practices since she first started farming.
Krause said vegetables make up most of her crops.
Krause also founded one of the state’s first four community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs and has prepared over 57,000 CSA shares, all filled with produce from her farm.
Krause said CSA programs are mutually beneficial for farmers and consumers.
Krause said the CSA programs also encourage consumers to try out different in-season produce.
