As the central Iowa water restrictions continue, organizations are working hard to do whatever they can to get the nitrate levels in the water back down to a safe level. For years, the Great Outdoors Foundation (GOF) has been working with its partners to mitigate nitrate levels and other harmful inputs by advancing water quality initiatives across Iowa. GOF CEO Hannah Inman said that, in their meetings across the state, they found that many large water quality projects just needed an extra boost to get across the finish line.
Inman said that’s why they started the Conservation Acceleration Fund (CAF), which is designed to foster exponential growth in water quality investments.
In 2024 alone, the CAF’s projects activated over $28 million in water quality investments that will mitigate 1.2 million pounds of nitrates from Iowa waterways. For more information, visit greatoutdoorsfoundation.org.
