Nationally, the biodiesel industry expects to ramp up production significantly by 2022, with the added effect of doubling the output of Iowa’s biodiesel plants. Iowa Biodiesel Board Executive Director Randy Olson, above, says the goal isn’t just ambitious – it’s doable.

With both a retroactive and prospective inclusion of the biodiesel tax credit in the farm policy extension, Olson says 2013 could be a good year for the biodiesel industry – possibly paving the way to make great strides that will have taken the ethanol industry much longer.

Nearly a quarter of all soybean oil in the United States goes to the production of biofuels, and just last year, the biodiesel industry added $400 million to Iowa’s GDP, according to the Iowa Biodiesel Board.
