Ag groups are staking their hopes on the $23-$35 billion in savings offered by the 2012 farm bill.
House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer says farm groups pushed to move the Senate-passed bill to the House floor, but House Majority Leader Eric Cantor won’t even bring the House Ag Committee-approved version of the farm bill to the floor, citing his belief that there aren’t enough votes to pass it.
American Farm Bureau Federation Deputy Director Dale Moore says House leadership in both parties has responded lukewarmly to a last-minute farm bill, and says actual passage in 2012 now appears to hinge on connecting it to the fiscal cliff.
