January red meat export data from the USDA and the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) is showing a strong start to 2024. U.S. pork exports raced to a great start in January, and while beef exports were slightly below last year’s volume, export value trended significantly higher. USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom said there’s a fair amount of optimism in the pork industry.
January beef exports totaled 99,764 mt, down 1% from a year ago. However, Halstrom said export value climbed 9% to $763.8 million, as value trended higher year-over-year to South Korea, Japan, Mexico, Canada, Central America, the Caribbean, and Hong Kong.
Halstrom added that U.S. lamb exports experienced a strong rebound at the beginning of this year as well.
