We have officially flipped the calendar. Well, maybe not flipped it so much as tore the old one off the wall and put up the new one. 2023 is here, and even though one day doesn?t make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things, it is a figurative cleaning of the slate, and it brings along a sense of renewed optimism that any challenges we faced in 2022 are gone in the past, and we can focus on a blank page in front of us for the new year.

One thing that we are going to have to come to grips with in the new year is what is going to happen with this economy. Will there officially be a recession? How long could recovery take? What effects will geopolitical unrest continue to have in the new year?
While all of these questions and others are going to be the main focus for at least the first part of the year, we also have to focus on what we will do to survive these times. In rural America, the lives of the residents are symbiotic. Farmers depend on a strong rural community in which to do business and rural communities depend on that business from the farmers.
So how do we look ahead to the health of our rural communities and farmers for this new year? John Monson of Compeer Financial talks about the lessons we have learned and the new issues we face.
Monson outlines what options we have to move forward on some of these issues.
He says that these partnerships need to happen. It can?t be done by one entity or even one person. Partners are needed. Partnerships will make rural America stronger.
Look at your communities. Become involved. If you don?t feel that you are the leader, then at least be the support to help make things happen.
