Soil moisture improving in some areas of the country

Well, the 2023 growing season is off and running. Fortunately, it hasn?t seen too many hiccups as we get those seeds into the ground. In this part of the country, we are still seeing some dry soil conditions, but for the actual planting time, dry soils are going to be just fine.

While we did get some rain over the weekend, we still have some catching up to do. Temperatures haven?t always been playing nicely either. John Baranick is an Ag meteorologist from DTN, and he talks about how we are starting to see things turn a little more back to normal.

To our north, we saw a large amount of snowpack over the winter. That moisture has recharged soil to our north and is helping to top off the Mississippi & Missouri rivers.

Now, in our neck of the woods and further south, we are are still trying to catch up with those typical moisture levels. However, we aren?t making a whole lot of progress.

As we move towards the Delta and southeastern states, they are set for another year.

Here?s hoping everybody has a great remainder of the planting season.
