Sec Naig wraps up Dairy Month at Thelma’s

Last month was Dairy Month, and to finish off that celebration, Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig (a known dairy connoisseur) visited Thelma’s in Des Moines to tour the facility and check out their famous ice cream sandwiches. Highlighting dairy isn’t just for the month of June, though, as it’s important for consumers to enjoy dairy year-round. It’s also important to make sure we’re telling the stories of our Iowa-based dairy businesses. Thelma’s Founder and CEO Dereck Lewis said they started at the local farmer’s market before seeing the success they now have today.

Lewis said their ice cream sandwiches are available at events and grocery stores across the country.

Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig said he was particularly proud to highlight a business that is located right nearby in Des Moines.

Naig added that studies continue to show that the pasteurization process for milk makes dairy products safe from the H5N1 virus.
