Precipitation gap looks to continue for start of 2023

The last few years have been the story of the ?have?s and the have not?s.? This was on full display right in our own state of Iowa. The northeastern part of the state received the rains they needed, while other parts of the state didn?t get much if any at all. The biggest hope we have for 2023 is for this drought to loosen its grip on the Midwest. There are many forecasters saying that they expect La Ni?a to weaken in the Pacific. That would be the catalyst we need to get things turned around, after three straight years of warm and dry.

So, what does the outlook for the early spring of 2023 look like? Will we see improvements? One forecaster thinks that while some areas may see some improvement in their drought situation, most of us won?t see any major changes for now.

Ryan Martin is an Ag Meteorologist from Indiana. He talks about the steady precipitation that is being seen in the Upper Midwest.

Martin says that he expects the Central Plains to remain very dry.

While the Eastern Corn Belt has enjoyed better rains than the Western Corn Belt, Martin says he expects those rains to begin to taper.

In the Delta and Gulf Coast regions, things look a bit different.
