Applications for paid on-farm jobs are now open for Practical Farmers of Iowa’s Labor4Learning program, which provides an opportunity for beginning farmers to train with experienced farmers across the state who are committed to developing the next generation of agriculturists. Over a dozen jobs are available, ranging from farm enterprises to productions systems. Donna Warhover at Morning Glory Farm in Mt. Vernon is one of this year’s returning mentors, and she said she got involved in the program to provide great opportunities to prospective farmers.

Warhover said Morning Glory Farm is a diversified operation with a heavy focus on the local community.

Warhover said mentees on her farm can get a taste for a lot of different revenue sources and figure out what they want to bring back to their own operations.

The job at Morning Glory typically starts in March and runs all the way through October, so mentees will get the chance to experience a full crop season.

Warhover said she also values being transparent with her mentees about the business side of things as well.
