Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI) is looking to financially support farmers who are seeding cover crops this fall. In 2022 alone, PFI paid over 1,100 farmers over $3.1 million total to seed cover crops. Morgan Jennings, PFI’s field crops viability coordinator, said the program has seen plenty of success since it was started in 2015.

Jennings said farmers can receive $10 per acre on an unlimited number of acres for implementing cover crops.

Jennings said both farmers who have been using cover crops for a while and farmers who are just starting with cover crops can enroll and see benefits from this program.

Jennings added that the simplicity of the program has been one of the biggest appeals for farmers over the years.

The flexibility of the program is also something to note- and if any of that catches your attention, the December 1st deadline is quickly approaching.
