Online options for SNAP are growing through grant programs

As the online marketplace has grown and evolved, it is necessary for food assistance programs to grow as well. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has had online shopping options for beneficiaries since the COVID19 pandemic started. However, the problem lies in the number of options available to those beneficiaries.

Vanessa Piazza is with the USDA Food & Nutrition Service (FNS). She says that options have been limited to retailers with large online presences.

To open up more options, the USDA FNS has opened up applications for grants to allow more access for small, local companies to the online programs. These grants will help them upgrade their online shopping and delivery options to help those consumers who use SNAP benefits.
