The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) held its annual leadership summit in Altoona again this year to gather the state’s cattle industry leaders and reflect on the past year. The ICA saw a lot of change over the past year, and that includes new leadership. As a cattle producer himself, new Iowa Cattlemen’s Association CEO Bryan Whaley said he knows how valuable representation is in this industry.
Whaley said he’s had a wide variety of experiences, including time as a teacher, that lead him to this position.
As a grassroots organization, Whaley said it’s very important that ICA members speak up about what they want to see in state and national policies, so they spent hours discussing that at this week’s summit.
Despite this year’s challenges in the cattle industry, Whaley said there’s a lot of excitement for the future among producers still.
Whaley added that he’s excited about meeting with producers across the state to listen to producers for issues and opportunities to address.
