National Corn Growers set goals at Classic meeting

Last week, we had the chance to talk with Iowa Corn Growers President Jolene Riessen about the policy goals that they were bringing to Saturday’s meeting of the National Corn Growers Association at Commodity Classic in Houston. Now that the meetings are over and the Iowa participants are back home, we touch base again to find out the outcome of those meetings.

ICGA President Riessen gives us a recap of the meetings they had on Saturday. Base acres were a hot topic in the meetings as some states were for them, while states like Iowa were concerned with the financial harm it could do to our producers.

Sustainable Aviation Fuels were also discussed as we are on the cusp of that market exploding, and corn producers want to make sure that ethanol is a part of that solution.

On the subject of ethanol, EVs and the policy surrounding them both, one Iowa initiative concerning E-RINS was approved.

ICGA also put forward a policy concerning the safety of data that farmers are putting out. While producers know that policy and programs are set by the data they can provide, they also do not want to see that data be too specific to individual farms, but rather as an aggregate of the region.

The National Corn Growers will release the final draft of the adopted resolutions and policies and they will be promptly published on the Iowa Corn website.
