As we are only a short time from the start of the Iowa State Fair here in Des Moines, preparations are being finalized as we get ready for a whole-state celebration. Agriculture is a large part of the heritage of this state. And as we speak about ?Heritage?, one of the biggest events of the fair for Agriculture is the honoring of Century & Heritage Farms by Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig.

Century farms usually do not need much explanation. They are farms that have been in one family for 100 years. Heritage farms honor 150 years of family farming. It is a story that is common in Iowa, but sadly also in jeopardy as younger generations sometimes step away from the family farm.

Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig says this event is the highlight of the whole fair for him.

Another aspect of the fair is educating our consumers and urban citizens about the efforts of agriculture to find new ways to be responsible for the resources we have in this state and still produce safe and affordable products.

The Iowa State Fair runs from August 11th ? August 21st. Be sure to come to visit the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network next to the Super Bull all ten days.
