IPPA & Iowa pork producers are poised to lead the future

With World Pork Expo last week, many producers from across the globe were in Iowa to talk about the latest technology, policy, and trade situations. It was also a chance for groups to talk together with their counterparts around the country and internationally.

One of the groups taking advantage of this opportunity was the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA). Their President Kevin Rasmussen caught up with us on day two of the event. Rasmussen says the hottest topic he discussed with other groups was sustainability and reducing the carbon foot print. He talks about how farmers need to reduce their environmental impact while holding, and even increasing, productivity.

Rasmussen says this is all a part of getting your ?elevator speech? ready. Being able to communicate what producers are doing, and what your operation does, to improve productivity in a responsible manner. If you don?t tell your story, someone else will.

Rasmussen also talks about what Iowa pork producers and the IPPA members can be proud of.

Rasmussen also says that producers are needing to adapt their operations to keep growing into the future. If we don?t keep up, we won?t be viable. He likens it to when his dad got his first H Farmall tractor.
