As the combines and tractors grow silent, meeting season is upon us. It is a time for producers to get together, talk about the year that was, make plans for another year, and talk about the issues that are important to their operation. That is what will be happening when the Iowa Cattlemen?s Association hosts the Iowa Cattle Leadership Summit in Altoona.
The Summit will be held on December 15th and 16th at Prairie Meadows Conference Center. Iowa Cattlemen?s Association Communications Director Anna Hastert tells Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network that there will be some great educational sessions and speakers at this event. The keynote address will be made by Lt. Col. Peter Shinn, USAF, Ret.
Besides the breakout sessions, there will also be a trade show and the Awards Banquet on Wednesday evening. The summit wraps up on Thursday with annual meetings for both the Cattlemen and the Beef Industry Council.
Hastert says that this information is going to be timely and relevant for Iowa producers. There are a lot of question marks in the carbon marketplace, as well as changes to the tax codes. She says it is vital for them to help producers navigate what is going on, and how they can best help their operations.
New this year, a closing session before the annual meetings. Dr. Frank Mitloehner of the University of California, Davis will make the address. Dr. Mitloehner has spoken across the country and in the halls of Congress about carbon neutrality and livestock production. His research data has debunked many myths about the industry, but he also shows how there is always room for improvement. He also educates producers on how to advocate for their industry.
